Already in the morning we decided to ask at the animal shelter if someone had found Feli and handed her in. At noon we received a call from Kira who, in tears, reported that a cat had already been handed in at the Dillingen animal shelter on Sunday at noon, less than three hours after she had disappeared, hit by a car, left there, dead! A resident had probably handed her in.
Why Feli was hit by a car more than 1 1/2 kilometres from her home is still incomprehensible to us, completely atypical, even if she was an "outdoor cat".
The description on the phone gave us a bad feeling, someone had to agree to identify the cat, not an easy thing to do, that was already clear beforehand, the cat was hit on the head.
The job fell to me and so I had to go with them to the "morgue", where deceased animals were waiting in plastic bags in several freezers (!) to be picked up or "disposed of".
While the three ladies outside gave free rein to their tears, I had to look for the typical Feli features, the missing piece of the ear, the white spot on the left hind leg, the white chest - quite difficult with a stiff frozen body. I was sure: "That's our cat, that's Feli!", but in the end Silvia wanted to convince herself too.
Well, to cut a long story short, we took Feli with us and so she found a quiet place at her favourite spot outside.
R.I.P. Feli!
